A ONE-OF-A-KIND ART PIECE THAT TELLS THE TIME WITH HER EYES. 

Clocks are funny things. Trying to convince us that every second lasts the same amount of time. Everyone who has ever been bored knows that time doesn't work like that. That a minute can last for hours. 

CECE knows it too. She knows that our sense of time is linked to our emotions and that the passing of time changes her moods. Moved by two clock mechanisms, CECEs eyes rotate as the time passes. Reminding us that there's more than one way to look at time.

CECE is made in my home in London. I assemble and hand-finish each piece to ensure the highest quality.

  • Birch plywood - cut by Good Empire.
  • C-type archival photo print - professionally mounted by A.bliss mounting.
  • Two clock mechanisms - powered by AA batteries*.

Avoid direct sunlight
CECE’s colours might fade if you place her in a spot that is too bright. Pick a place that doesn’t get any harsh direct sun.

Avoid touching printed surfaces
Touching the print can leave greasy fingerprints. Only touch the wood when you move CECE around.

*Left a fingerprint by accident? Wipe it away with a soft lens cloth.

CECE's eyes follow the hands of the clock, so her expression changes as time passes. Her left eye shows you the hours and her right eye shows you the minutes.

CECE's story

CECE is a project I’ve been working on for many (and by that I mean MANY) years. When both my grandparents passed away shortly after each other, I found comfort and inspiration in the books they left behind. One of the books was filled with Egyptian statues and after an afternoon of collaging CECE’s first prototype was born.

That first prototype was made of styrofoam, cardboard and two not very silent clock mechanisms that ticked in an irritatingly uneven rhythm. My flatmate and I quickly developed a language to talk about time in facial expressions. It’s almost 🙄 or I’ll meet them at 👀. It took me years to get the details of the piece in the right shape but it still makes me giggle just as much when I glance over and see CECE is making a funny face.
